A Busy Weekend

Of late Emma has been addicted to the Harry Potter website and all of its games. To give her something a little more exciting I dropped by the Apple Store on Friday to see what they had on offer. Fortunately they had the Harry Potter Deluxe Edition on sale (a fancy name for Harry Potter 1 & 2 in the same box). 72 hours after purchasing the games I have struggled to get near the laptop. Emma has been glued to the screen, cursing and bouncing around as she tries to avoid objects on her broom. It looks like I will need another computer in the near future just so I do not have to compete with Harry Potter.

In between Harry Potter sessions we headed into London Bridge to go to Borough Market which is a popular food meca. There were lots of stalls and thousands of people queuing for everything from fudge to organic wraps. The prices were not cheap but we bought enough food to see us through to breakfast the next day. After having so much to eat we walked along the south bank of the Thames to Victoria Station. Unfortunately it was not the best day for it as sunny periods we soon shattered by bitterly cold showers. Preparations for VE Day celebrations were underway but I think the bulk of the ceremonies will take place while we are in Paris.

The goings on at Borough Market

On Sunday we went to the movies with my friend Chris to see Downfall, a German movie about the last days of the Third Reich. It was a pretty amazing movie, especially after visiting Berlin and seeing a lot of the historical sites featured in the film. The film had subtitles but it was pretty gripping as it cut between bitter street fighting and surreal scenes within Hitlers bunker. It was difficult to watch at times with patches of gore and lots of suicide near the end. Overall it was a very good film, the actor who played Hitler was very impressive. Given his character he wont get any awards but his performance is better than any Oscar winners of the last few years.

Tomorrow we are off to Paris on the Eurostar until Saturday. We wont be taking the laptop much to Emmas dismay. She will be without Harry Potter for the rest of the week and even now she is looking a bit withdrawn....
