Star Wars Release in London

Today there was a big Star Wars spectacular at Leicsester Square to celebrate the immanent release of Star Wars III: Revenge of the Sith. One of the cinemas was screening all six Star Wars films in a row and ticket prices were reported as high as 250 for the day. As Emma and I were heading into the city to do some shopping we headed along to take a look. After getting off the Underground finding the Square was not hard as all we had to do was follow the kids dressed as Jedi and Storm Troopers.

Within the Square a large stage had been setup complete with lights and loud sound system. Outside the two movie theaters were people dressed as Star Wars characters. The costumes ranged from being very authentic to fairly absurd (there was a five foot tall, anorexic looking Darth Vader). Unfortunately the weather was not fantastic with light showers but there was still plenty of people outside taking in the events.

Just to add to the atmosphere there was a life size X-Wing complete with smoke and special effects

When we were there Anthony Daniels was on stage giving an interview. To those who are not Star Wars fans Anthony played C3P0 in all six movies. It was quite entertaining to watch as he gave anecdotes and answered questions. Apparently in Star Wars IV (the first old one) when C3P0 gets out of the oil bath an unthinking Anthony dried himself down in a very inappropriate manner. Fortunately his actions were in the background so they have survived through all the various editions of the film so I will be able to check it out once I get back to New Zealand (which is now only two weeks away).
